On the 3rd July we had a great afternoon with staff, supporters and fund raisers from the Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF) with interactive learning about meningitis in adults in the UK. Supporters of the MRF came from far and wide to hear about the Meningitis NW Study some of whom had personal experience of meningitis – both viral and bacterial. The team from the meningitis research foundation were joined by many of the research nurses who are involved in the study. The day saw Prof Tom Solomon, Chief Investigator, and Dr Fiona McGill, Clinical Research Fellow, present the background to why the study was needed and some early results. There were also interactive activities including looking at some slides of brain tissue that had been infected by virus (under the microscope), a quiz and an appearance of Bella the beautiful brain.
